Im Nahen Osten leben mehr als eine Million Drusen. Seit Jahrhunderten versucht sich die Religionsgemeinschaft in der Region zu behaupten, Islamisten betrachten Drusen als "Ungläubige". Bei den jüngsten Kämpfen im Süden Syriens starben mehr als 1100 Menschen, unter ihnen mehr als 700 drusische Kämpfer und Zivilisten.
