The Japanese battleship Musashi sank on October 24, 1944, after being hit by approximately 19 torpedoes and 17 bombs from U.S. Navy carrier aircraft during the Battle of the Sibuyan Sea. The massive damage took about four hours to sink the ship, and despite Japanese efforts to save her, she capsized and sank in the Sibuyan Sea.
